Freedom of choice…
We’ve converted a 7,000 square foot former factory into an open, “choice” based food pantry.
This is a departure from the traditional pre-packaged food “distribution” model, which has long been adopted by food pantries for reasons of operating efficiency.
We believe offering a “choice” food sharing format more closely aligns with our established core values, which prioritize uplifting the dignity of our neighbors in need.
“Choice” means you have the freedom to choose the food you need, in a welcoming grocery store environment. In a place where neighborly engagement is sometimes just as important as leaving with a grocery cart that is filled with the food you need and deserve.
Here’s a sample of what many of our neighbors are saying…
“We get what we like, instead of them giving it to us in a bag. It's like if you're shopping at a grocery store. You pick what you need. What you want. If I don't like a certain kind of bread, I just don't take it.”
“It gives people self-pride. I didn't think I'd ever have to go to a food pantry. And they always try to get different things, different vegetables, different fruit. So, it doesn't make you feel ashamed. That’s about the only way I can put it.”
“It’s like going into Jewel. You get your cart and you’re shopping. You're seeing everything. You can pick what you need. And what you don't need, you don't take.”
